The cool one, in every sense. La Casa Chilam is a private house vacation rental near Chacala, Nayarit, in the hill village of Altavista, and the only house on the property with air conditioning. It was the first casita ever built on Cerrito Encantado, recently renovated, and it is where families and friends land: queen bedroom, a full-sized sofabed for the other two, and a kitchen that turns market hauls from the Thursday tianguis into long, loud dinners.

Mornings here start with birds and end with butterflies. Make coffee, wander the orchard, see what Tomasa has picked when the trees are giving; star fruit, mangos, whatever is ripe gets shared. The desk in the bedroom runs on Starlink that holds every video call, so one of you can work while the rest are at the pool pretending not to send photos. And when the afternoon heat rolls in, Chilam is the house everyone else on the hill quietly envies: door closed, AC on, siesta earned.

Evenings, walk up to the pool for the sunset, light the plancha in the outdoor kitchen, and let the dogs join the party; they will have adopted your kids by day two. On green season nights, the lightning shows over the valley have had grown adults cheering like kids.

Getting down here is part of the arrival. Standard car? Park up top on the main road and take the one minute walk down; our returning guests swear the hill is what keeps them young. Driving a 4x4 with good tires and a little nerve? Come all the way down and park at the house.
